Archives is currently closed for in-person visits. However, visitors can contact us via email.
General Guidelines
- Mobile phones should be switched off or put on silent mode before entering into the Knowledge Management Center/Archives and visitors should deposit the mobile phone at the counter.
- Use of mobile cameras/ digital cameras, scanners, etc. is strictly prohibited inside the Knowledge Management Center/Archives.
- Bags, water bottles, beverages and edible items are not permitted inside the Knowledge Management Center/Archives.
- Researchers are required to return the reference material to the counter after use.
- Archival materials must be referred to the Reading reference area or as instructed by staff members.
- Requisition slips may be submitted to the counter at 10.00 AM, 12.30 PM and 3.00 PM; therefore, requisitions should be handed over at least 15 minutes before the timings mentioned above. For any clarification, staff may be contacted.
- Laptops may be used for making notes from the archival materials.
- Documents should be handled with utmost care. They are not to be marked, folded, pinned, stapled or leaned upon.
- Do not keep any writing tools on the archival materials.
- Use of pencils is preferred over pens in the Knowledge Management Center/Archives.
- If any damage or lost pages happen during the referring period the person needs to pay four times higher fine for the archive material or need to pay its entire conservation cost.
- Gloves should be worn while referring to some materials like Negatives, Slides, Rare Books, and Photographs.
- Some materials may not be available for handling, based on an assessment of the physical condition.
- The Researcher is responsible to take permission of copyright to use archival material for Individual/Publication or Exhibition purposes. National Institute of Design holds copyright of the archival collection. In case, third party rights, including copyrights on the materials, Users, Researchers or Institute will be responsible for taking prior permission in written form from the third party.
- Any material which requires photocopying of Documents, Digital Download, Photo Quality Digital Prints, and Moving Image is carried out in-house by staff members only.
Registration and terms of admission
- Knowledge Management Center/Archives can be contacted on any weekday from Monday to Friday from 9.30 AM to 6.00 PM. The facility remains closed on weekends and other government holidays. The notified list of Government Holidays is provided on the NID website for reference.
- Admission to the KMC/Archives is allowed through the receipt issued to the scholars/researchers/visitors on a daily or weekly basis after the completion of enrollment procedure through email or from the front desk.
