Scope and content
NID was commissioned to design some sections in the Indian pavilions at New York and Montreal World Fairs. The experience so gained convinced NID designers, that if the structure and display are integrally conceived and adequate time is available for the working out of the total scheme, India could hope to achieve better results.
As part of the Educational Programme, NID has worked for over two years on the preliminary scheme for the Indian pavilion at the Osaka World Fair. It provided an opportunity for a number of disciplines available at the Institute to be coordinated into a comprehensive scheme. The scheme was presented to the Government of India in January 1969. Although NID proposal was not finally selected, a great deal of educational experience was derived from the project. We feel that those concerned with the future planning of such national projects should understand the need for providing a coordinated and integrated approach to the problem of structure, display, and publicity. Unfortunately, this approach is not being accepted.
